The Sedge Insurgency

Having worked for and hung around the ornamental plant trade for two decades, I’d ordinarily say there isn’t much startlingly new besides rollouts of new hybrids of otherwise familiar workhorses such as Knockout roses or Endless Summer hydrangeas. Then out of all time (or about 33 million years’ evolution), came sedges, in the genus Carex appearing not only in designer plantings but also in huge variety on retail garden tables. So I wanted to find out why.
