Olmsted Woods, part of the Washington National Cathedral grounds, is just five acres, yet it reflects the ecological decline seen in forests across the Chesapeake Bay region caused by urbanization and, increasingly, by climate extremes.
In 2025, this story was awarded a Bradford Williams Medal by the American Society of Landscape Architects, which recognizes exemplary reporting and writing about landscape architecture.
